Prezi Link
I enjoyed looking at the Prezi Fiction Flowchart, it follows a logic progression but I do not agree with the headings of some of the subgenres. Under Realistic Fiction is Chick Lit but the ones that I have read or examine make me feel that this should be under Romance. The Chick Lit that I have looked at are not really realistic. Also under the Science Fiction - Outer Space subgenre where is the mention of Heinlein, Robert; Clarke, Arthur and other well known older SF authors that wrote about outer space. There were other series and authors before Star Wars and Star Trek.

Week 6: Assignment 1
Mystery Readers International - Genre - Week 6: Assignment 1
I have been following the Mystery Readers International Genre because of the interest in mysteries by many of our readers. The Mystery Readers provides a Mystery Reader Journal; gives great mystery lists like: Environmental Mysteries, Mother's Days Mysteries; Legal Thrillers, etc. These lists can be used to create great displays around the holidays and other themes. These lists also provide several authors talking about their various books and why they fit into the different categories - Mother's Day Mysteries plus. Another good feature is the list of Mystery Reading Cubs in different states plus bookstores. Plus their Awards like Macavity give Best First Mystery Novels, Best Mystery Related Non-Fiction and other interesting sub-headings. It is a good site to visit for information.

Week 5: Assignment 3
Coming Soon
Big Girl Panties should be popular with romance readers and the name Evanovich will attract readers. Other books like this one are Nanny Diaries by Emma McLaughlin; Motor Mouth by Janet Evanovich and perhaps Size 12 is not Fat by Meg Cabot

Week 5: Assignment 3
Coming Soon
I selected PW Most Anticipated Books of Spring 2013 from the Early Word Coming Soon section.
From that section I chose Stephanie Evanovich who has written a book Big Girl Panties which is coming out July 2013 and looks interesting.
Holly, is newly widowed and doesn't know what to do with her life, so she turns to food for comfort. Meeting Logan, a personal trainer, makes her want to take back her life and lose the weight she had gained. Perhaps she will get his attention. Logan has always liked Holly's quick wit and her insights but now she is turning all the guys heads - did he wait too long?

Appeal Factors:
Pacing: Fast
Characterization: Chick lit
Storyline: Quirky
Details: Author is the niece of Janet Evanovich
Tone: Funny, Light
Learning/Experience: ?
I only found brief reviews in the PW section and Amazon so details are sketchy but the author can capitalize on her name, the fact that is a romance and the interest in weight loss. BCPL has already ordered 40 copies and there are several hold already placed.

Week 5: Assignment 2
Week 5: Early Word
Answering the question what is popular at your branch, one comes up with a multitude of answers: Best Sellers, Popular well known authors; Oprah's Picks; Urban Fiction, and non-fiction that has been discussed on TV and/or talk shows. My customers would rather read the book or novelization after the movie comes out in the theatre or TV. When I looked at Early Word I did like all the sidebars, especially the categories of YA GalleryChat and New Books for Children & YA, the reviews in those areas were interesting. I especially like the section Movies & TV based on books (will help in creating displays) plus the New Movie & TV trailers with dates was good. The Best Books spreadsheets gave dates, publishers and Tags (where the books had been reviewed and how long it had been on their top 10 lists.) I could also see these spreadsheets being used as an ordering tool. I will definitely continue to look at Early Word for their mixture of information on materials for all age levels.

Week 5: Assignment 1
I have been following NPR for the past several weeks, there have been many interesting articles and interviews. The book reviews in the NPR are detailed, consistent, professional and give good information not just popular information. I also like listening to the authors discuss their books "Listen to the Story", the interviews plus other author features. The Best Sellers list gives current information but also one can go to the previous weeks ratings (to help the customer who remembers a book on last weeks list) This is a site that consistently gives good usable information.

Week 4: Assignment 1
Recommended: Mrs. Queen Takes the Train by William Kuhn to Lori H.
This book is about the British monarchy, quirky yet it deals with real people undergoing changes in their lives and how they deal with them in today's world. This title seems to fit in with her interests in the Monarchy and quirky material.
I like Goodreads for many reasons: ability to create shelves for books I have read or plan to read; being able to look at other people's reviews and suggestions. Also it provides good information about authors, series (what number is it in the series) forthcoming material and the various genre.
